Important customer information on SAP PLM

Autor: Digital Business

On July 14th  2020, SAP made an important announcement regarding the future of SAP Product Lifecycle Management (SAP PLM).

What impact does this announcement have on you as a CIDEON customer?

According to the official SAP announcement, the strategic partnership will have no impact on the existing SAP PLM solution portfolio in the near future. Our customers will continue to have access to the latest SAP PLM solution portfolio, including the SAP® Engineering Control Center (ECTR) and associated interfaces. All further developments planned to date remain unaffected.

As a SAP Development Partner, CIDEON Software & Services will continue to support the standard SAP ECTR platform for integrating MCAD and ECAD authoring systems into SAP PLM, and will work closely with SAP on further development of integration solutions.

In addition to the extended warranty for maintenance of CAD desktop and the CAD desktop-based CIDEON integrations in SAP ECC 6.0 up to 2027 (or 2030 for extended maintenance), SAP is also guaranteeing maintenance of SAP ECTR in S/4 HANA at least up to 2040.

With SAP ECTR, companies remain well positioned for the future, as the CAD data integration into SAP S/4HANA is being "natively" supported. Company departments can still seamlessly integrate their SAP-PLM processes.CIDEON provides direct interfaces to leading MCAD and ECAD systems (Autodesk® AutoCAD®, Autodesk® Inventor®, Siemens Solid Edge®, SOLIDWORKS® from Dassault Systèmes SolidWorks Corporation, as well as EPLAN Electric P8).

What exactly is SAP ECTR?

SAP ECTR enables CAD assemblies, parts, drawings and their dependent documents to be managed seamlessly in SAP PLM. Customers do need any CAD or non-CAD related product data management system, as SAP PLM already contains these functionalities. Product data and documents are accessible company-wide, can be managed in a structured way and linked to other SAP objects. This results in integrated product descriptions, the perfect basis for all subsequent processes in the context of the Internet of Things (IoT) and Digital Twin.

Further SAP ECTR interfaces to authoring systems such as CATIA V5, NX and PTC Creo are provided by our partners CENIT AG, DSC Software AG and .riess engineering europe gmbh.
